Why Has Bolton Not Been Granted City Status?
Many people often ask this question and well finding the answer is so straight forward as you might think.
Google really doesn't help to answer this question, due to the fact that nothing has ever been made official when it comes to this question.
In cases like this finding the factual reasons can be very, very hard, if not impossible sometimes, however, in this case the answer is actually pretty straight forward.
The story started way back in 1651 when we townsfolk publicly executed The Earl of Derby! We didn't just do this for no reason though, he was executed for his part played in the Bolton Massacre of 1644, he helped the Royalists to murder 1,500 townsfolk.
Now that's one very good reason to yell "OFF WITH HIS HEAD", however, despite it being 377 years, 7 months (as of this day 01/08/2021), the Royals clearly still have an axe to grind with Bolton.
The queen will now draw the blinds on the limo as she passes through Churchgate, now 377yrs to bare a grudge is a mighty long time, however, with that said, you cant just execute a Royal and expect no repercussions to come now can you?
So they we have, the factual reason as to why Bolton has not and likely will never ever become a City.
